Picture the scene…
DM gets out of bed to go and let the dogs out for their morning tiddles, comes back with cups of tea. We all settle down on the bed for morning tickles (dogs in receipt and humans giving). DM is a bit quiet and then pipes up with “I’ve known you for half my life. We’ve been a couple for a quarter of my life. We’ve been married for 12th of my life…that’s a bit like being married for every July I’ve been alive.”
Then he sort of spoiled it by saying “Of course, it’s all less significant for you.” When I asked him to explain why he thought these facts were less important to me and it transpired that it is because I’m four years older than him! Hmmmm.
We then went on to discuss E10, E15 and whether or not biofuel will solve the problems of the world. He was amazed I had any idea what he was talking about and amazed that I could hold an “intelligent” discussion on the subject until I reminded him that I’d done a module in my final year that was called “Plant exploitation from ethnobotany to biotechnology” and a big chunk of that was about biofuels.
So, here is a photo of a half a glass, a quarter of a glass and a twelfth of a (Nutella) glass of orange juice. If I’d have thought of it a couple of hours earlier when we moved 110 litres of fuel oil from our secret source into our oil tank I could have used a petrochemical alternative!
