6th August 2013 - rock and chips (no, not supper)

Yep – I’m completely in agreement with you. It’s a rubbish pic and not worthy of a photographic website. There are no excuses. These shots were taken on the G7 because my 5Ds memory card was full and the whole job was done and finished in a matter of 10-15 minutes so I had no time to sort it before I took these.

We were woken up at 8am by the council’s road builders resurfacing our road. In my defence, I’m not the only one doing a crap job today. The council took the cheapest option for surfacing – spray the crappy, pot-hole-y road surface with tar then throw a load of rocks and chippings onto it then “steamroller” until chips are well and truly stuck to the tar and “Bob’s your uncle”. Well, you would, wouldn’t you, when you’re trying to save a few quid. So – as you can see, it’s not only me cutting corners to produce a shoddy job today. No offence to the road crew themselves - they were just doing what they'd been told. It'd be grand if the council could bring themselves to fork out for a new cattle grid as the existing one is rotting into its pit but I don't suppose that'll happen either.

What’s interesting is that the heavy rain yesterday meant that there has been a stream running along the road all day today and where it flows, the tar, rocks and chips have not stuck so in a matter of hours from the resurface, it needs doing again.

In my defence, my later work was of a much higher quality, although it didn’t involve a camera…

I think Surrey have blown their whole highways budget on cans of white spray cans - maybe that's why we're still waiting for the holes to be filled!
