23rd July 2013 - Armstrong Siddeley

There has been a lot of dashing around the world (well, the small world according to Linda) doing “stuff” today:
I’ve been for a job interview and have NO idea how it went. It was either really good or really bad I suspect but depressingly I won’t know for more than a week whether or not I’ve got onto the next stage. Sometime soon, I will push on a door that will open. Perhaps that’s an omen – today, the door I pushed on was resolutely locked and it needed someone to come and let me in – perhaps that means I won’t get the job? Who knows.
After I got home, I had to go out to a meeting, which was productive, if a lot longer than I’d anticipated. Then I realised I’d forgotten something important so popped into our local shop to purchase the missing item. I happened to have a lovely little “kismet” moment when I realised what I’d parked next to…perhaps because it was buried under a thick layer of grime.
It’s an Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 234 and under the dust and debris, it’s a little beauty. Oh how I hope that someone loves this car. Oh how I pray that someone treats it to some tender loving care soon, soon, soon. All she needs to be beautiful again is a clean and polish, her bodywork looks pretty good, if not pristine. One thing is for sure – she’s older than me and she looks as sad and neglected as I feel so my heart goes out to her.
I know I’m not really sad or neglected but the joblessness is getting me down. I need something to make my motor fire into life. Maybe, just maybe, someone out there will dust me off and realise that despite the layers of cobwebs that are masking my skills, they are still there and they still work…more than that, they are really keen to get revved up and barrel along the road of useful life again. I’m looking forward to the moment when my starter motor turns over and I fire into action.

A little soap and water for the old girl, and her curvy boot...

Well I love it! Great capture of the grime in a very artistic manner. ~V~
