21st April 2013 - sunshine on a rainy day...

We’ve both been working all day with our heads in our laptops. We’ve not minded too much because the weather here has been disgusting all day and even that’s been quite pleasing so the field got a good drenching. I got up twice in the night and I’m not exaggerating to say I was convinced we were aflame because I could smell smoke and burnt stuff. This morning, I discovered why the smell of smoke and burnt stuff was following me around – I have got a burnt fingernail which smells disgusting. I’m kind of attached to my nails you see!

When we switched on Sky to see the footie, we were surprised to see White Hart Lane bathed in glorious sunshine. It seemed impossible given that the weather here was so yucky. I was not-so-surprised to see us go down to an early goal and I must confess to a major lapse in belief because I didn’t think we’d come away from this crucial game with anything. But you know what Journey say - “don’t stop believin” and not only did we come away from the game with something – we came away from it with all three points nicely tucked under our belts. Yee haa.

BTW the Journey reference is a joke between DM and me. I’m going to let out one of his sordid little secrets when I say that he loves what I’d have once called “soft rock” but we now both call “yacht rock”. Yep – he’ll happily listen to Journey, Foreigner or REO Speedwagon, all of whom are decidedly persona non grata in my world. A couple of nights ago, we watched “Rock of Ages” and if you’ve not seen it, it’s rammed full of this sort of stuff, including “Don’t stop…”. The sight of Tom Cruise’s naked arse and cod-piece was more than a bit off-putting but despite that we quite liked the movie. I’m not sure if I am ashamed to admit that or not. As for the yacht rock – Colin, do you remember Lille? I know, I know, you’ve been trying hard to forget it ever since. Urgh – I shudder even now.

The sun shone on Anfield too as we saw later – still bleak here – and although that result wasn’t quite as good as we’d hoped, at least Suarez managed to save two of three points for us!

DM said “the sun is trying to come out and I am going to take the dogs out”. So I took advantage, grabbed my camera and shot a few pics of emerging sunshine. It’s not perfect because it’s not completely sharp but do you know what? I don’t care. It’s a little bit of sunshine falling on our patch and that’s got to be good.

Oh dear, I have to confess that in a moment of madness I recently downloaded "American Anthems - Remastered." Love the wet grass.

Beautiful green, lit by the sun.
