We’ve not been away for a break for our honeymoon (though we do plan a short trip soon) but we have been “off work” for a couple of weeks. DM has taken a break from his work and I’ve promised him not to do any grafting around the house or garden for a couple of weeks.
That’s coming to an end soon but for now, we remain on holiday.
So, when our friends called us up and asked if we’d like to join them at the pub for lunch, we gladly accepted. It all got a bit complicated from then on in because I ended up collecting them from their home, bringing them up the hill to our local and later they walked home. They will think, when they see this, that it’s even more complicated than that because this photo could not have been taken on the day in question but what the heck – I’m not doing a PAD, I’m just doing my own thing.
This is my new sunhat, made by myself to match DMs one at the weekend. It’s adorned with David’s buttonhole from the wedding, which still looks fab, even though the roses are dry and browning. I’m determined to eke out every little bit of pleasure from my wedding bouquet and the rest of the flowers. I still have the beetle’s arrangement and my actual bouquet in vases in our lounge. I think I got away with keeping this buttonhole because it had been pinned onto David’s suit with the roses pointing downwards so as they dried, their heads didn’t droop. Even though I didn’t wear it “today”, I wish I had done because it was hot!
What I will say is this – it was a beautiful, sunny day and sitting on the moor, among the sheep and cattle was a real joy. That joy was enhanced by our wonderful friends and by the fact that we got to have a cheese toastie and a couple of pints of beer while watching the world go by.
The “world” we were watching was made up of our two little friends (plus one on this occasion), who charged around the place with their new puppy, Maisie in a scene as bucolic and delightful as it’s possible to imagine. We sat and watched the village, full of tourists, here to see and enjoy the countryside, getting refreshments in one or other of the village’s little hostelries. We chatted. We laughed. We had a lovely time…..then went home to spend the remainder of the afternoon snoozing on the sofa. What more could a honeymoon be about, other than the sweet pleasure of such a day?
