2nd May 2009 - in need of nourishment

I’ve been in need of spiritual nourishment today. In “good employee” mode I went to bed last night early because I had to work today and wanted to be fully charged for my day. DM followed me up after Jonathan Ross and we were both fast asleep, tucked up in our lovely warm bed when all hell broke loose in the middle of the night.

The doorbell was ringing insistently and the dogs were both going spare. It was pandemonium.

DM leapt out of bed (starkers) and leaned out of the window to find out who was at the door. He wisely thought better of going downstairs when an unknown caller was ringing on the bell in the dead of night when all good people should be tucked up just as we were.

He got a huge shock to realise that the late-night visitors were the police and two of them, in bullet-proof vests and all the gear were stood on our doorstep. Yikes.

When, after a few minutes of panic he located a door key and had seen their ID, he let them into the house to be told they’d had a 999 (our equivalent of 911) call from our telephone number and they wouldn’t leave until they’d seen me (the other occupant of the house) to check I was alive and well.

I got hauled out of bed and had to prove myself alive and well (although by now extremely grumpy as my early night had been shattered).

The police suggested that “perhaps one of the dogs had accidentally dialled 999”. We checked out only cordless handset, which was on its cradle in the sitting room with both access doors shut. Not only that but we were as sure as we could be that the dogs had both been on their own beds.

Bang goes my early night – the incident spooked me beyond belief and I found myself unable to get back to sleep.

I dragged myself off to work today and thankfully it was busy so I didn’t have time to get tired.

Therefore by the time I got home and we were getting ready to go and see friends for the evening, I was in need of spiritual (in the loosest sense of the word) nourishment. We chose to acquire our nourishment by walking across the moor to meet up with our friends. That’s when we spotted this tiny foal. We reckon it can’t have been more than a day old. It was lying on the grass while mum was recharging her own batteries grazing on the fresh grass.

Mum checked us out and decided we were no threat to her or her offspring so she was quite happy to see us walk past, me with my camera, shooting pics as I walked. Her little foal stood up and suckled as we walked. It was starting its journey to adulthood by taking nourishment from its mum. What a wonderful sight. How perfect this bit of spiritual nourishment.

This is of course before spending a perfect evening with our friends, sharing a lovely meal and catching up after a couple of weeks when we’ve been too madly busy to see anyone.

Gorgeous picture - aren't they a photogenic pair?

You'll have to be careful with the 'Dog & Bone' in future! LOL!

what a perfect way to end a day that began quite weirdly . . . did they happen to explain how your phone number got hijacked??
I guess you should feel comforted in their intended quick response . . . & I suppose, then, next time Rosie is on the phone, you'll understand

Sounds plausible - your dog dialled 999 - NOT. Did they then check to see where the call might have come from. ? Anyway, the foal picture is a delight.
