the journey of a heart from creation to cremation

I have decided my heart needs its own gallery. It was created on 28th September 2004 when I was in a week-long tease of Jeanne for her birthday. I'd got this mad thing in my head that I could do a shot to symbolise 'I'm your Toy' - the wonderful Gram Parsons/Chris Ethridge song that Elvis covered on his Almost Blue album.

I loved the heart so much, it's appeared in what I think of as some of my finest shots. It is natural then to give it its own gallery.

I made it for 'nothing' out of a scrap of red satin and some holey tights. I made it while sitting in a hospital waiting room, waiting to see a consultant. It cost me no more than half-an-hour of my effort and has been my photographic prop ever since, bringing me untold pleasure.

The smallest, most simple things can provide so much joy. This is one of those for me.
