Believe it or not, when this gorgeous iridescent blue butterfly closes his wings, they're brown and spotted -- see the previous photo. They don't often open their wings to show the blue when they land to eat, rest, etc., (because the "eyes" scare away predators) so it was exciting to catch this one. They come from Central and South America. This one was part of Brookside Gardens' Wings of Fancy 2005 butterfly show.
