what a perfect timing on this shot,a perfect co-ordination of the the pillars above the family and them.them moving out of the frame to give you some time to enjoy the scene(:-).And a beautiful shot without any disturbing elements (another person in the frame might´ve been disturbing, but u captured a perfect moment)

Seems very past, present and future to me...
The dark foreground is the past, the walkway where the family is is their present and the future is in the distant with the lighter tunnels. And the future has choices...you have the power to choose which tunnel to continue on....

Excellent shot, love the details in the darkness.

! Yes, the image made by the shape of the cluster. It may be that without them this would be a great image, with a human element it becomes significant, but with that group, that shape, the echoes and abstract form of this image, it becomes exceptional. One of your, if not actually your, greatest street image Ai Li. They do not come much more powerful or perfect than this...pure Life Photography. K

Symmetry of the architecture, broken by the human presence, but shape of the arch echoing the heads of the family. Perfect exposure, and perfect composition, with the right amount of black outside. Voted.

I think the PS is excellent. I like the "tunnel" effect you used and it's very effective bec it compliments the many arches in this compo.
You saw it You framed it You shaped it You expressed it. There! V

Fantastic composition. :-)

Some good compositions here, but this isnt one of them, there is far too much darkness which leads to negation of space and bad processing. A little detail in the foreground is necessary.these images look heavily cropped to me. But you are on the right track.

You have mastered the jeweller's art!!!

Well done, Ai Li. The use of "tunnels" and "arches" to create a frame within a frame and thereby lend symbolic context to people moving within them is a wonderful way to express the nature and meaning of a particular place. In this image, it is the repeating arches echoing the repeating people that say so much about India. These arches reflect the nature and beauty of Indian architecture, and the grouping of people symbolize the close nature of family life in that country. You give us a cluster of arches and a cluster of people -- eloquently reflecting the flow of both history and people in the subcontinent.

Coincidentally, I've recently added an instructional gallery devoted to using doors, arches and gates to express meaning through framing. In two of the images, I've tried to do some of what you are doing here. In a dark stairway at a ruined Moroccan palace (http://www.pbase.com/image/72900077 ) I've tried to express an overwhelming sense of mystery, and in my shot of a child leaping into a sun splashed alley framed by an old Marrakesh arch (http://www.pbase.com/image/72900078 ) I've tried to catch a child in a moment of exuberance within the contraints of both the arch and the moment.

! Like an eye, from the past or an another world, on the casual, almost intimate, scene of this family passing by.
The composition is made from gold and it was, like always, the perfect time to do it!;) A most beautiful image...
(... and thanks a lot for the link!;)

Wonderful layered picture! Love the human presence.
david procter23-Jan-2007 16:52
Right lots of echoes! Great moment - I ilke how the form of the family mirrors that of the sculpted archways beyond and in the main framing device. Great high contrast decisive moment.
JSWaters23-Jan-2007 16:40
Great frame within frame within frame, with shadows and light so well balanced. The arch created by the different heights of the group is a nice echo of the man made arches.

perfect place for the group walking past.. I like the details in the darkness of the arch.
Stu23-Jan-2007 16:04
Great silhouette and use of the light from the tunnel. I like the building's symmetry...the photo's shapes 'broken' only by the family.
