NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS ARE COMMON TO THIS REGION, BUT ARE USUALLY ONLY SEEN ON THIS ISLAND DURING THE SOUTHWARD MIGRATION EACH FALL. THEY ARE SO NAMED BECAUSE THEIR CALL SOUNDS LIKE A SAW BEING SHARPENED OR "WHET".
One of these little owls flew into the side of my car one day, I quickly retrieved him off the road, and was keeping him on my knee, as I was driving, he stunned himself.
He came alive before I was at the woods and was flying around in my car, I gently caught him and released him, so off he went, luckily. I have never seen another!!
