July is the time for my annual backpack / mountaineering trip to the high sierra.
This year we visited the Rock Creek drainage and spent four days hiking among wildflowers and mountain lakes with glaciated granite peaks surrounding us. I spent a day climbing Mt. Abbot from Treasure Lakes, having fun with crampons & ice axe, then third classing to the 13,715' summit.
The photography experiment was to forego the DSLR & lens weight/bulk and downsize to a Canon G10.
I liked the convenience of having the camera at the ready, but missed the ability to isolate the subject. A small Manfrotto table top tripod with ballhead allowed for low light performance and bracketing.
