The original inhabitants of the Eastern Sierra called it “Ninamishi” or Guardian Of The Valley and it is clear why once you have viewed it from the Owens Valley.
I had a warm, windless summit to myself. The copy of the original summit register had been signed by Sierra Club Director, John Muir. Other climbers I noted:
1903 Josephe Le Conte
1925 Norman Clyde 'Thunderstorm bearing down'
1929 Walter A Starr Jr.
1930 Glen Dawson, Jules M. Eichorn, John M. Olmstead Jr. of N.Y.
1931 Walter A Starr Jr. via Glacier Ridge (current descent route)
1933 James Wright of S.F.-- a relation??
1933 Francis P. Farquar
