Snake Eel (Brachysomophis atlanticus)

Brenu Beach, Cape-Coast, Ghana

Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: off Senegal and Gulf of Guinea.
Biology: Burrows in sand and mud on the continental shelf.
Story: the fishermen took three Snake Eels from their net, still alive, and set them free.
One elder told me that they don't eat them in this village, but that some people do eat them.

Terrific find and capture. Great example of nature's mimicry. It's banded like a sea krait. Vote.
