Ayios Georgios

Lycabettus Hill, Athens, Greece

Ayios Georgios is a whitewashed church dedicated to St. George and located at the top of Lycabettus Hill, 278 m. high, in the centre of Athens.
It is thought that in antiquity the temple of Akraios Zeus was located here.
Popular stories suggest it was also once the refuge of wolves, possibly the origin of its name (which means "the hill that is walked by wolves").
