Gerenuk (Litocranius walleri). The diurnal gerenuk is exclusively a browser, requires very little water and may not drink at all during its lifetime. To reach leaves on taller trees, the gerenuk stands on its hind legs, resting its forelegs on the branches of the tree to steady itself. From this position, it plucks the tender leaves from the branches with its long upper lip and tongue. It occurs north of the island of Zanzibar, in Kenya, Somalia and Ethopia. The hunting of Gerenuk figures prominently in Hemmingways book “Green Hills of Africa”. Reference: http://www.ultimateungulate.com/Artiodactyla/Litocranius_walleri.html
