I really liked the 2nd Grebe photo, in particular.
I spent a long time thinking "Why are these guys so cute?"
Usually, cute equates to big head, hands and feet, in proportion to the rest of the body, and large eyes, in proportion to the head. This grebe photo breaks that rule, somethat. The high head is "cute", in a way, but the very close set "beady-little" eyes wouldn't usually come across that way in a less "sympathetic" critter. The sharp beak COULD look threatening, but it doesn't. I think that it's the eyes and the shape of the head, in particular, that makes this guy so appealing, but I'm still not sure if I can understand why. One element I liked in this photo was the way his foot is visible under the water.
