It was a beautiful day. We parked at the lake near the entrance. It was Mary’s birthday and Jill had made her a Birthday Tiara to fit on her helmet. Sue Marshall and I were both on green horses. The temperature started at 42 degrees and increased to 51 degrees. Barometric pressure was rising and it was sunny. The ground was very muddy, especially in the plowed fields. Winds started from the Northwest and shifted to the Northeast while we were hunting. Wind was 5 to 7 mph.

We started out in thick grass behind lake 15. Barely 10 minutes into the hunt we jumped a coyote that ran us for four miles in 30 minutes. The hounds sounded fantastic. They were really speaking and running hard. The field made a wrong turn somewhere along the way and we ended up at the East end of lake 33 with three of the whips all having lost the huntsman. Both Sue Marshall’s and my horse had settled down by now and we were having an enjoyable time. We called on the radio and finally found her. She was calling hounds and drawing along the way. We got back to the trailers about 12:45PM. Mary kept her Tiara on her helmet the entire time.

Gene Deutch brought cold cuts and I had brought chicken Tortilla soup. I was experimenting with my gas fired portable stove to see if it would be adequate for heating up soup at hunts where we don’t have electricity for heating things up. It seemed to work well in spite of breeze that had picked up.

Jill brought cupcakes for Mary’s birthday and we all sang happy birthday to her.
