Temperature started at 27 degrees and increased to 32 deg. F. We started at 10AM and returned at 1PM. Barometric pressure was rising, it was sunny to start and became overcast as the day progressed. Winds were from the NW from 2-4mph.

We started off headed east down the road toward the highway. We then turned south toward the river. The hounds struck off on something within 10 minutes. Shortly after that Robert Tallyho’d and the entire field saw a coyote running up the hill. Eleanor picked up the hounds and headed that direction. We came to the top of the hill and stood listening for the hounds. The entire field then saw the coyote again as he doubled back and headed toward the river. He turned and ran parallel to the river. We had to cross a deep drainage ditch which separated the first field from the hilltoppers and even scattered the first field for a while. The coyote then crossed the river with hounds following. We continued southwest until we got to the road where we could go across the bridge. We continued south until we reached a point where we were out of the territory. The field stopped and waited on the road and Eleanor and the other whips went to gather hounds. Shoes were a real casualty this day. Eleanor was missing one. Tom was missing three. Robert was missing one. Stephanie was missing one. I think there were others also. We then headed back toward the trailers. Geri Waushausen had prepared a lovely bag lunch which we all enjoyed immensely.
