Juneau is Alaska’s capital. We Docked around 7AM and they put the gang plank down at about 7:30. We went out and looked in the stores and saw some of the sights. There is a tram that runs from near the cruise ship port to the top of Mt. Roberts. We did not take it. It was raining lightly and pretty cold. We looked at all the Russian boxes in town but didn’t see any more that we liked enough to buy. There were lovely fur stores. I bought rabbit fur scarves for $9. In the afternoon we took a Helicopter ride to view glaciers. The helicopter had seats for seven. Three in Front and 4 in the back. The pilot arranged us carefully by weight. The ride was cool but scary at times going over the tops of the mountains as the cloud ceiling was low. We landed on a glacier and walked around for a while. It was amazing how the crevasses and the pools on top of the glaciers were tidy bowl blue. We returned to town after our helicopter ride and walked around some more. John talked to his friend Forest who said that the helicopter we were in which was a French made Avastar had the nicknames of Death Star and/or Falling Star. Bald Eagles could be seen flying over town. I checked out the old hangar on the shore which was a PBY hangar in WWII. All the float planes came in and docked there. It was right next to the cruise ships. I did purchase some rabbit fur scarves here and a new winter jacket that was microfiber with a fox trim hood. It certainly will be weird to go back to Missouri June weather after this trip.
