Thursday June 15th Denali to Anchorage

I woke up with a splitting headache which I soothed with aspirin and acetaminophen. We decided the Margaritas had to have been spiked with Everclear. The headache faded in time for the visit to the Husky Homestead. This was the home of Jeff King, four time and current Iditarod Champion. Jeff really had pimping puppies down pat. His place was south of town near Goose Lake and had a beautiful setting. His people picked us up in busses and drove us there. The handed people puppies as the got off the bus. These of course peed and pooped on people. Quite humorous. I got offloaded mine as fast as possible to avoid this. The dogs themselves were cool. Some lived on a hot walker type device that was dog powered. In the summer time they take them out on training runs hitched to an ATV instead of a sled. Jeff has over a hundred dogs on his place but not all could be seen from where we were. They did quite the talk, answered questions, and then sold gifts. Jeff’s wife is an accomplished wildlife artist and some of her items were also for sale there. We got back from there just in time to catch the bus to the train to Anchorage. The clouds were coming in and on the train ride it did rain quite a bit. There was no sign of Mt. McKinley at the appropriate mile markers due to the extent of the clouds. We did go through beautiful forests with lovely ferns and crossed beautiful streams. The total trip was about 7 hours which is faster than it can be driven by car. The Denali to Anchorage route was much more scenic than the Fairbank’s to Denali had been. Unfortunately due to the overcast and raining conditions I took very few photos. We arrived in Anchorage and checked in at the Anchorage Hilton. We then walked a few blocks and had a late night dinner at the BrewHouse. I ordered King Crab which was very good.
