On our first day at the Grand Canyon North Rim, we were greeted by afternoon thundershowers with periods of heavy downpours followed by a cold night in the tents. However, the forecast was for improving weather. Our two major activities were a 3 ½ hike into the canyon along the North Kaibab trail ending at a point known as the “Eye of the Needle”, and a 23 mile bike ride. The bike ride includes a 9 miles section known as the Rainbow trail, a part of which goes along the edge of the Grand Canyon with phenomenal views.
