In Escalante, we camped four nights at the Petrified Forest State Park several miles from the town. Our activities include a hike of Petrified Forest trail, a visit of the Devil’s Garden, and a 40-mile bike ride on Hells Backbone Road, a scenic section of roadway along Highway 12. My stay at Escalante ended with a sinus infection, so I had to lay low for a few days to recover missing out on the Lower Calf Creek Falls hike.
