The drive to the coastal town of Placencia was our longest day on the road with stops at the Blue Hole National Park and Dangriga for lunch. At this quiet offbeat coastal town with one main road at the end of a long peninsula flanked by the Placencia Lagoon and Caribbean Sea, we stayed five nights at the North Beach House run by Dan & Deb. The town considers a concrete path which is just wide enough for two people to be their main street. From our place, its a 15-minute walk on the path to the pier at end of town. The path meanders pass souvenir shops, homes on stilts and yards overrun with tropical plants and festooned with daily laundry. Besides a day trip to Laughing Bird Caye for snorkeling, we spend much of our time relaxing, enjoying the tropical climate, and eating at our favorite restaurant (Wendy's) and bakery (Norm's). Afterall, its a vacation and we'll soon be home in time for winter.
