The Sacred Square with Quarry in the Foreground
The Quarry supplied the city's builders with white granite. Chisels were used to open holes into which were placed pieces of wood which were subsequently wet and, as the wood expanded, the rocks were parted. Given that the Incas did not have the use of iron tools, we can appreciate the immense difficulty and time that this type of work would have involved.
The Sacred Square contains three very important features: The Temple of the Three Windows, the Main Temple and a chamber for the Inca Priests who performed the magic and religious ceremonies.
