Water Level
This image shows the dramatic decline in the water level over the past few years. Two main reasons: the damming of the river in Turkmenistan (Uzbekistan's neighbour to the south through which the Amu Darya passes and which can be seen in the distance) and the irrigation for the cotton fields (brought in by the Russians)
