Bibi Khanum's Dome
This dome, which dominates Samarkand's skyline, prompted one chronicler to write: "Its dome would have been unique had it not been for the heavens,and unique would have been its portal had it not been for the Milky Way".
Note the detailed and elegant calligraphic inscriptions, floral mosaics and glazed brickwork around its base as well as the ribbed dome. Most domes have 62 ribs, representing Muhammad's age when he died
