Sewing at Ava's

The Taylor Pregnancy Resource Center was having it's 2nd annual banquet. Our pastor's wife (Cathy) is the Director of it. Connie, helping with decorations, asked Ava's help with sewing. Anita and then I got invited to bring extra hands into the project. The night I came in to it was the 2nd night and we finished making over 200 chair covers. The material had to be cut, (first night), surged on all 4 sides, ironed, folded & pinned and then a seam along the fold/pin end. Ava had 2 surge machines and 2 regular sewing machines set up. It was a very late night (both nights) but the project got completed. These are a few photos taken just after our only break:
Hard at work with 2 working at Surge machines and one at a regular machine. We kidded around about working in a real sweat shop (although the temperature was fine).

Figured I oughta get some faces when they stopped to ask a question instead of only backs of heads. (Left-to-right: Connie, Anita & Ava)

Almost done for the night. Connie was folding & pinning the last two while Cathy & Ava watched. The large table/machine shown in this photo is a huge automated quilting topstitcher that we used as a work table. (Ava does top stitching (or stippling) on quilts for people as a hobby/side business.) The horizontal pole to the left (with white/dark material) are all the chair covers we finished making (220)!!!

Cathy's position all evening was ironing while I stood next to her and did folding & pinning on another area of the tabletop.

Obviously Cathy was estatic all evening to have the needed help to make her banquet a success as far as decorations went - she was smiling ALL night long!! :))

A portion of the completed chair covers hanging over one of Ava's machine poles. They were all tacked together by stitching to keep them easy to deal with. Then after they're delivered to the banquet hall they'll be snipped apart.
