Montezuma was the small coastal town at the bottom of the hill from our VRBO (vacation rental house). The road to get down to it was very steep and full of hair-pin curves but was probably only 1/2 mile away. The town itself only has 2-3 main streets, each only a few blocks long but there are many tour excursions around that area that leave from Montezuma, offering such activities as zip-lining in the tree canopy, horseback riding (taking you either to several beachside waterfalls or into the rain forest), guided hikes to see the three separate "Montezuma Falls", taking you to Tortuga Island for snorkeling/scuba diving or to see the turtles, going to nearby Cabo Blanco Nature Preserve or going to the Rainsong Wildlife Refuge, etc. There is something for just about everyone who likes nature.
We went to Montezuma once each day for a meal (preparing the other two meals ourselves at the VRBO). What we noticed was how narrow the streets were, how crazy people drove and how pedestrians, ATV's, needed to keep your "wits about you" when driving around any of the Costa Rican towns or cities that we went through.
