Flattop Mountain is located about 15 miles outside of downtown Anchorage and is the most-climbed mountain in their state. There are three different "overlook" plateaus to climb; we climbed as far as the second one. Even then, you can see way out over Anchorage and the bay. From the parking lot, you can look and see the trail and a few "tiny" people that look like tiny black lines. We are both out of shape (health-wise) and yet we made it to the first "overlook" in less than 15 minutes, and to the second within 20 minutes. As we were ascending the trail I saw a paraglider soaring over a pass. As we were descending the trail, we came across two separate hikers, each with a huge backpack on with a helmet strapped to the top. I asked both hikers if they planned on taking the "easy way back down" and they replied "yes".
