Cade's Cove is the most popular part of the GSMNP. Of the estimated 10 MILLION visitors to the GSMNP each year, an estimated 2.5 million come to see this specific 11-mile loop. Cade's Cove was originally settled between 1820 - 1830, gaining a population of 230 settlers by 1830. When the entire park was formed in the 1930 - 1940's, settlers' land was bought by the government in order to form the park. There is an 11-mile (one-way) road that encircles the "Cade's Cove" area. It can be driven, biked or walked around. All the dwellings found within this 11 miles have been restored to their original design.
