Jeannie took part in the first Badwater to Mt. Whitney race in July 1987. She and Tom Crawford represented the US team while Eleanor Adams and Ken Crutchlow represented the British team. The lowest combined time determined the winning team. Despite Adams' sprint to the summit in 53:03, Ennis and Crawford had the lowest combined time and were declared winners of the first Badwater 146-mile race (to the summit).
