Dragon Flower
June 9

We have this amazing, exotic looking plant, that just appeared in our backyard. After doing some
research I found that it's a Dracunculus vulgaris, sometimes called Dragon Flower, Dragon Lily,
Dragon Arum or Voodoo Lily. It only blooms once, per season, and the blooms only last for just
a couple days. What I didn't realize is that it's a type of flower that attracts insects, to
pollinate it, with the odor of carrion....and boy, does it ever smell like carrion, although from
what I read it's only on the first day and then the smell goes away....thank goodness.
It's not a flower you'd want to plant for it's fragrance, trust me.
A few more shots, from our PaD Wannabe Album:

Beautiful rich color on the flower and wonderfully crisp, clear photography.

We have one of these too! We got ours from a man at our local farmers' market who gave it to us free if we'd plant it. We did and this year we have three flowers coming. They aren't as far out as this one yet though. I've got a few pictures of them in my flower gallery. I like this abstract view.
