Hearing a commotion, in the backyard, I found two sets of Robins screaming at a Raven. There was a Robin chick
on the ground, but unfortunately, when I went to check on it, I could see it was severely injured and, in fact,
died shortly. I had scared the Raven off and the parents began to exhibit an interesting behavior. I don't think
they realize yet that the chick was dead and they continuously called to it while pulling leaves, green and dead,
off the old cherry tree and dropping them down towards the chick. My guess is that when they had a sufficient pile,
on the ground, they would have used them to camouflage the chick, to hopefully keep it safe. Sadly, their efforts
were in vain and later, after I went in the house, the Raven returned for it's meal. It may seem cruel, but without
the predators, we would soon be overrun with seed and insect eating birds, so it all balances out, in the end.
