Most of these images are of Mount Katahdin, either in or near Baxter State Park. At 5267 ft., Katahdin is the highest peak in Maine, and the 2nd highest peak in the northeast (Mt. Washington being the highest). It has been called the most rugged day hike east of the Mississippi. One ranger was quoted as saying that climbing Katahdin is like 8 hours on a stair master -- for the rest of us mortals it averages 10-14 hours. However, one never need summit to appreciate Katahdin - it is an inspiration even from afar. Some photos are taken at the same place and many from the same perspective even, but I am always fascinated by the difeererent seasons, weather, light and so much more.
