The Sarasota Chalk Festival became the first international street painting festival in the United States in 2010 and will enter its fourth season November 1-7. The 2011 theme "Pavement Art through the Ages" will feature over 250 artists from around the world. They will use Pineapple Avenue as their canvass to create a historical timeline from one end to the other with works starting as early as the 15th century and then traveling through the ages into today's street painting movements. As part of the timeline, the Sarasota Chalk Festival will honor the Grazie Curtatone Madonnari Competition that takes place every year in Mantova, Italy, since 1973 on August 15th to coincide with the Feast of the Assumption.
