KING RAIL (Rallus elegans) IMG_0147

The Celery Fields - Sarasota, Florida

This uncommon large rail is more often heard than seen. A permanent resident of Florida, it nests in dense marsh vegetation near the water's surface. Like most rails, King Rails rarely flush, prefering to escape danger on foot.
