The most widespread breeding sandpiper in North America, the Spotted Sandpiper migrates to the southern United States and South America. They are not gregarius birds, and are seldom seen in flocks. These birds constantly bob their tail and rear up and down as they walk. Non-breeding birds (as seen above) do not have spotted underparts, and are very similar in appearance to the Common Sandpiper of Eurasia.
