MOURNING DOVE AND HATCHLING (Zenaida macroura))

Palmer Ranch

This is a common, almost tame dooryard bird, quiet in voice, neutral in color and unobtrusive in deportment. Loosely constructed stick platforms serve as nests that usually contain two eggs. Young are fed a milky solution secreted from their parents' crops. Adults feed mostly on grains and weed seeds.
