RINGED TURTLE DOVE( Streptopelia risoria)

Sarasota Bayfront

This species has been bred in captivity for many hundreds of years. Escaped or released birds have successfully become established in St. Petersburg, Florida and Los Angeles, California. The Florida population, established in the 1950s, appears to be holding its own and numbers between 500 and one thousand birds. This FERAL species is, perhaps, best referred to as the Domestic Collered-Dove.
