CRABEATER SEAL (Lobodon carcinophag) ice floe IMG_9327

The CRABEATER SEAL (Lobodon carcinophaga) is a true seal with a cricumpolar distribution around the coast of Antarctica. They are found promarily on the free-floating pack ice that extends seasonally out from the Antarctic coast, which they use as a platform for resting, mating, social aggregation and accessing their prey. This is the most abundant species of seal in the world.
