Day 2, March 11th (Monday)

Monday (March 11th), Tuscaloosa to home, along the way got supplies & a haircut in Birmingham AL, a hellish experience in Atlanta GA as we hit 5 p.m traffic & it was raining very hard and the car, which otherwise does fine, sometimes can run hot if you're stuck in idling traffic for extended periods (fortunately it got through okay in the end & did fine the entire rest of the trip). I had seen a lens for my camera for sale (a Sigma 30mm f/2.8 for my Sony NEX-C3 camera for $100 I had seen online at FM), so we quickly pulled into that person's house to check the lens out. I bought it (wise purchase, I've used the heck out of that thing) and as a very helpful bonus the seller gave me local directions to get around much of the Atlanta mess. (Even if the lens was no good it was still worth getting it for the directions, he may have saved our car from running hot stuck in that traffic & the engine blowing up on account of it). After getting out the Atlanta mess we pulled over to a Chick-Fil-A to eat and they gave Adrian a tiny birthday party (the day after, but oh well).

A quick stop in "South of the Border" (not by design, the GPS happened to take us that way) I was bushed & was tempted to crash nearby in Fayetteville and head to Kinston the NEXT day (a friend whom I was to meet later lived there, I figured we could get the visit out the way while there vs returning later anyway), but the stop at "South" refreshed me enough that we were able to bully on through on to Kinston NC at the Quality Inn hotel off Highway 70, arriving at 3 a.m. At least we would wake up with the trip to Kinston & the Greene County area DONE.
