The Twin Cities River Rats trace their roots to the University of Minnesota Water Ski Club which was formed in 1979 as part of the University of Minnesota Recreational Sports program where they skied on Lake Independence.
In the summer of 1982, the ski club teamed with Two Rivers to perform at the Flotilla Frolics in Hastings and the University of Minnesota Water Ski Show was born. The show returned to Hastings and performed solo in 1983 and 1984, featuring a spectacular flying barefoot start from a railroad bridge.
The River Rats perform an hour long show combining various water skiing acts with skits and music. Their acts include Barefooting, Pyramids, Doubles, and more.
The River Rats show site is located just north of downtown Minneapolis on the Mississippi River. The hillside along the river provides excellent viewing for the best show in the Twin Cites.
