Linke Wienzeile is a wide street running along the south side of central Vienna. A line of the U-Bahn (subway) runs below it. The Kettenbrückengasse station maintains portions of the original structure designed by Otto Wagner. The stop is at the southwest end of the Naschmarkt, Vienna’s largest and most popular old market place. Across from the station to the north are two of Wagner’s finest works known collectively as die Wienzeilenhäuser von Otto Wagner, the Viennese row houses by Otto Wagner. | Built in 1898, they are general considered the finest residential building in the Viennese Jugendstil (art nouveau). |
