Mondrian Mexcano - Introduction

In August of 2004, on a month-long stay in San Miguel de Allende,Mexico; I used my first digital camera, a newly purchased Nikon Coolpix 4500. One afternoon I took the photo scene above. Later back home in California while viewing photos on my computer, I noticed how that image’s composition was reminiscent of the paintings of the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian (1872-1944).

On other trips to Mexico, I would at times find a appropriate subject for what I had come to refer to as Mondrian Mexicano photos. After retiring, I moved to San Miguel in January of 2011.

While such images can be taken in other Mexican cities, a wealth of opportunities can be found in San Miguel de Allende, especially in the streets to the east and south of the central plaza, El Jardin.

I've include four images of Mondrian’s work. For more information on Mondrian, click here.
