Spring peeper (Pseudacris crucifer)

Larose Forest

Although these small frogs breed in spring, by mid-late summer they can be heard calling again, away from wet areas, and can often be found perched on vegetation. I counted 12 of these today along the trail.

Crouched low and green on green leaf, this little guy really is peeping at you. Is that the source of the common name?
