fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), male

High Lonesome Nature Reserve, Pakenham

Photographed a few years ago in the beaver pond of a nature reserve near Pakenham. According to Wikipedia: Breeding males acquire a large, grey fleshy growth on the nape, as well as approximately 16 white breeding tubercles on the snout.

There were perhaps 5 or 6 hanging around in the shallows near shore.
