Tartarian honeysuckle (Lonicera tatarica)

Ottawa East

A non-native shrub that long ago escaped the confines of gardens and is a common feature of natural areas. It does attract nectaring insects such as bees and butterflies, and birds nest in the shrub, but it can displace native plants. It is widespread in this region. It is a pretty sight in spring, however, with its pink, or white blossoms.

I think the beauty of its flowers gives it permission to spread! There's a couple of native varieties around here.
