Mycenae

Greece

site of the famous Lion gate, this shot shows part of the citadel wall around the site. Mycenae flourished in the mid to late Bronze Age. Heinrich Schliemann excavated part of the site (controversy set in later) and supposedly uttered the famous words "I have gazed upon the mask of Agamemnon" upon discovering a gold funerary mask, one of the most famous finds from the site. That it was the mask of Agamemnon was later disputed. With a degree in Classics, this was a site that I'd long wanted to see, and it didn't disappoint.

a compelling scene...super shot to portray the cyclopean stone construction..this view has a sense of mystery about it, with the passage leading out of sight and around the corner to another era..
