Brown wasp mantidfly (Climaciella brunnea)

Larose Forest

This odd looking insect appears to be a cross between a praying mantis and a wasp, but it is neither a mantis, a wasp, or a fly. It is however, a mimic of paper wasps (Polistes). It is in the Mantid Lacewing family (Mantispidae). It will feed on flower nectar, but will also prey on other insects.
