In this shot you can see one of the 'false eyes' that this species uses to startle predators. At rest, with its head tucked underneath its "hoodie", all a predator sees is two large eyes. I don't often see the head exposed to this extent, as the caterpillar does its feeding without sticking its head out so far. Here, you can see the real eyes of the caterpillar, the three brown dots on either side of that bald pink head!
